San Giovanni Resort, a hotel in a previous monastery in Saluzzo

While being in my hometown, I feel like I need to share some curiosity about this place, since most of the time tourists complain about the fact that there are not a lot of guides in the museums, and the only way they have to learn something is to book a tour with an Italian tour guide who is not able to speak English very well.

And that's a pity, if you consider the fact that Saluzzo is a small medieval town near Turin, in Piedmont and it is very well known in the region because of the old part that still has some of the original houses of the Marquis. Anyway, what I am going to write today is related to one of the newest hotels we have in town, which is located in a very particular place: a previous monastery.

The Monastery of St. John (Convento di San Giovanni in Italian) has always been a meeting point for tourists, since it is located near the Civic Tower where you can have an amazing view of the town.

A couple of years ago they decided to close this place, a very symbolic example of the religious architecture, and they restored it in order to transform it in a 4-star resort. The church is still open and there is a priest who celebrates the Mess, but he doesn't live there anymore, since the 13 rooms of the hotel are located in the upper floors of the building. You can easily imagine the quiet of the place, as well as the great view from the windows.

In addition to this, guests can walk inside this old place, having access to several rooms where they can organize meetings. Can you imagine hosting a blog conference in here? That would be amazing and interesting: once again, history, culture, art and past are mixed together, and the result is an elegant and structure.

The rooms are equipped with free WI-FI, which is available in all the structure and there are all the comforts you need, even if the pieces of furniture are really simple, in order to preserve the original setting.

I love the bathrooms! I think they are elegant but simple, endowed with modernity, so you can see how modern times can be mixed with the ancient ones.

All the major credit cards are accepted, and there is free parking inside the big yard in front of the hotel.

If you travel with your pets, you are allowed to bring them, but of course you have to pay an extra daily fee.

The rich menu offers local traditional food, according to the seasons and to the taste of the guests. Try both breakfast and dinner: you will be surprised not only about the quality but also the quantity.

A very nice staff, always ready to help you and at your disposal, will make your staying unforgettable and the receptionists will help you to plan your trip in the surrounding area, which is rich of art, museums, paintings and old castles.
